PURPOSE
The main purpose of this position is to analyze, design, implement, test and document software solutions & enhancements across a variety of technologies. Reporting to the Director of Information Systems & Technology and working closely with the Digital Project Manager and development  team, you will leverage your skills and expertise to assist in projects that impact all areas of our business.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design, develop and maintain new and existing software applications, databases and systems
  • Write clean, maintainable, optimized and well commented code
  • Participate in architecture, data modelling and code reviews and ensure the best possible performance
  • Collaborate with staff in the development of new solutions
  • Provide support and assist in identifying ways to enhance user adoption
  • Maintain and establish best practices across the development environment
  • Fix bugs quickly but ensure that resolutions keep the bigger picture in mind and avoid potential future complications
  • Provide guidance and support to other development staff as needed
  • Maintain technical documentation and versioned code
  • Stay current in technical knowledge and software development practices
  • Respond to internal customer requests promptly
  • Assist with other IT related tasks as needed
  • Work well with and demonstrate respect for colleagues at all levels of the company to consistently contribute to a positive work environment and culture
  • Follow all company policies & procedures and uphold SDI’s corporate vision and core values
SKILLS
  • Experience with multiple programming languages and technologies such as PHP, Javascript, Ajax, Apex, VisualForce, SQL, SOQL, jQuery, Angular JS, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS, JSON, XML, SOAP/RESTful web services, bash scripting, GIT, SVN, AWS
  • Ability to learn and apply new languages and technologies quickly
  • LAMP stack familiarity as well as Linux command line experience
  • Database knowledge (e.g. MySql, Postres) well beyond just being “a user”
  • Expertise in authentication, encryption and secure communication techniques and technologies
  • Knowledge of performance, memory, concurrency and threading issues
  • Knowledge of agile software development methodology and software development process (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of user interface design, data modeling and use of UML
  • Familiarity with API integration
  • Familiarity with automated code testing
  • UI design experience
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Consistent coding style
  • Aptitude for mentoring coding/documentation styles and software testing
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols
  • Familiarity with Eclipse development tools
  • Experience designing and developing apps that integrate with Salesforce and utilize cloud based frameworks (e.g. Heroku, node) is an asset
  • Experience with Mobile app development for iOS or Android an asset
  • Finding this link moderately entertaining is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal English communication as well as interpersonal skills
  • Highly self-motivated with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately under tight deadlines and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Works well independently and within a small team - always contributing to a positive work environment
 
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • 4 year degree in “computer science” OR a technical degree with qualifying work experience
  • 3-5 years’ direct software development work experience
  • Experiential marketing industry experience an asset
  • Salesforce.com Developer Certificate an asset
  • Bilingual English/French an asset, but not required
